About Brightcliff Habitat
A story of dedication to animal welfare and the bond between pets and their owners
How We Began
Brightcliff Habitat started in 2009 when veterinary nurse Sarah Whitmore and animal behaviourist David Chen recognised a gap in the local pet care market. Most facilities treated animals as inventory rather than individuals, processing them through standardised routines regardless of their needs.
They secured a former agricultural building on the outskirts of town and spent eight months converting it into a purpose-built care facility. The vision was clear from the start: create an environment where pets could feel secure and owners could trust that their companions were receiving attentive, personalised care.
What started as a small boarding operation has grown into a comprehensive pet care centre, but the founding principle remains unchanged. Every animal matters.
Our Mission
To provide pet care services that honour the unique relationship between animals and their owners, treating every creature with the respect and attention they deserve while supporting families in their caregiving responsibilities.
What Guides Our Work
The principles that inform every decision we make
Compassion First
Animals communicate differently than humans. We prioritise reading their signals and responding with patience and understanding.
Transparency
You deserve to know exactly what happens while your pet is with us. We maintain open communication and welcome questions.
Excellence in Care
Good enough isn't good enough. We continuously refine our methods and invest in staff development to deliver outstanding results.
Community Focus
We're part of the local fabric, supporting animal welfare initiatives and working with rescue organisations throughout the region.
Continuous Learning
Animal behaviour science evolves constantly. We stay current through ongoing education and adapt our practices accordingly.
Safety Without Compromise
Every protocol, every facility design choice, every staff decision prioritises the wellbeing and security of animals in our care.

We also host quarterly vaccination clinics in partnership with veterinary practices, making preventive care more accessible to pet owners throughout the region. Our staff volunteer regularly at local shelters, and we maintain an ongoing supply drive for animal welfare charities.
